Seen everywhere, most commonly at dusk or dawn, but may be out at any time of the day or night.

Black Bear

A common nocturnal visitor.

This is the common deer of the area. This one has antlers in springtime velvet.

A rarely-seen nighttime visitor. This one was photographed while raiding a hummingbird feeder on North Mesa.

American Badger

American Badger, Taxidea taxus

This rarely-seen mammal was photographed in a back yard in the Jemez.

Ermine weasel

Ermine Weasel, Mustela erminea muricus

This little cutie was photographed under the bird feeder at PEEC. Ermines are white in winter, brown in summer.

Ground Squirrel

Rock Squirrel, Spermophilus variegatus

Also called Ground Squirrel.

Abert's Squirrel

Abert's Squirrel, Sciurus aberti

Note that it's Abert's squirrel, not "Albert's". It was named after Colonel John James Abert, an American naturalist.

Red Squirrel

Red Squirrel, Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

Common names are also spruce squirrel or pine squirrel.

Chipmunk
